At the time Intel GPUs were behind (the only limitation for kicad was
the missing HW shader support). And saying 'ES 2' isn't much since they
can always emulate the missing HW.
I think that the 'commercial' term for the required functionality is
'Shader Model 9' (which is, coincidentally, the same required by altium
these days :D)
