I didn't see an /official/ announcement so I wanted to just put it out
there clearly, that AsciiDoc is the chosen format for KiCad's
documentation (user manuals and the like).

More information about asciidoc can be is available from the asciidoc

..and also see the more active asciidoctor implementation which is
written in Ruby and is providing things like direct PDF compilation of
asciidoc documents: http://asciidoctor.org/

NOTE: asciidoctor-pdf is currently considered alpha stage.
