x-y panning with mouse

I tried x-y panning with my wife's Mac mouse (pretty new - maybe oneyear old).

It does not have a trackball, but the top rounded surface responds to agentle rub in the x or y direction.

On the mac, this motion is coupled to the x-y panning on manyapplications (LibreOffice for example).

The Mac mouse is normal bluetooth and might also work on Linux (but Ihaven't tried it yet).
