Additionally, the reversed direction is something Garth found, and we
have the patch for it, just have to work through it.
I think at this point you're describing expected behavior!

There's no dot grid in Cairo/OpenGL (only lines) and AFAIK the
color is
hardcoded. Help with adding dot grid/fixing the color issue will be
greatly appreciated.
