This has been discussed many times in the past. The only solution that
I would accept is to provide kicad bitmap dynamic libraries with the
appropriate sized bitmaps. I will reject any solution that statically
links more than one size of each bitmap into the executable files for
obvious reasons. This means the library versioning will have to be
implemented and maintained to make sure that new bitmaps are available
for newer version of KiCad. I will also reject any solution that only
allows me to install one version of the library at a time. So far, no
one has taken up the task on this so my guess is that it is only
important to an small number of users. If I recall correctly, there is
a lot of hand tweaking of the bitmaps after they are converted for svg
so there is also that to consider.
