I think is a sensible choice.
And since package mantainers are already packaging kicad as:

kicad-locale-de
kicad-locale-fr
kicad-locale-it
...
kicad-doc-de
kicad-doc-fr
kicad-doc-it
...

that language auto-probe is even more sensible.

IMHO of course.
