Re: Some new sweet features on the new 3D-Viewer

Hi Mario
So my work is on same situation as yours... until one day it could be merged... one day...
I'm more optimistic then you ... I see your work in better position ;)

This is not just a case of 'insist', as I explained before, I dont have an "ideas to source code" converter!
Then there are priorities and issues to be fixed first before implement new things..
I know I know ... I just said I 'pressed' you a bit :) ...

Thank you again for your work! I think it will be very useful for kicad users

Maurice

Thanks a lot to Wayne and Mario to agree that was useful to all users :)

I am not so enthusiastic, as I consider we are still at the same point, since we still don't have this merged in main branch.

Also I had to 'insist' (and I'm minimizing) a lot with Mario asking for
adding the feature to move the pivot from the center of the board...
thanks again a lot to Mario for implementing that! :)

Also, as I hope that my work will be one day accepted for merge, I don't want to work on possible feature that will not be accepted in future and I wasted my time :/
So I want to go "easy" with addition of new exotic (from the point of view of current kicad) functionalities.

As a Portuguese saying: "Each thing in its time..." :P

In the end, the good thing of this refactoring (and that was one of my main goals) is that it should be possible to implement new features easily on 3D-Viewer.. that it was not possible before...

Mario

Hi Jakub,
For the "pivot and rotation center" I think that it is an option for
future development. But why it can not be as mCAD ?
I'm not saying it could not be an option in the future, I'm just
realistic...
It took me three years to see my implementation of Virtual models to
enable/disable enclosure included in the (almost) main branch of kicad...

Of course it not tend to be an mCAD but a 3D PCB editor. So there can be
only a tools for PCB design not tools as in mCAD.
I agree with you ... it would be nice, but there are so many things that
the dev are following to improve kicad that I suspect those activities
will have a very low priority

If you are interested in MCAD integration for enclosure design, you may
consider my kicad StepUp tools
https://forum.kicad.info/t/kicad-stepup-new-exporter-for-3d-mcad-feedbacks-are-welcome/1048
For example with my tools you can visually align your enclosure or 3D
model to footprint an Altium style
https://forum.kicad.info/t/how-to-interactive-align-3d-model-to-pcbnew-footprint-new-tool-for-kicad-in-altium-style/1711
https://youtu.be/O6vr8QFnYGw
And in FreeCAD you can do also collision checks and real MCAD
designing... so there is a very ECAD/MCAD collaboration available in
kicad :)
I moved all my code to FreeCAD APIs because of its power and maturity,
and for the immediate usability, without any change to kicad code ...

Cheers from a kicad enthusiastic user :)
Maurice
