Re: Intel video drivers on linux

I have a Dell Precision 5520 and Precision 5510 and love them. The 5520
has the i7-7820HQ + Intel 630 in it and I use it most of the time in
addition to the once a month or less using the Quadro M1200.

I run Arch Linux and have configured bumblebee (and that whole mess) to
selectively run the Quardro M1200 almost never unless I'm gaming. With the
integrated graphics I can get 8+ hours easily without anything special with
the integrated graphics and the 97Wh battery.

My issues:
* Anytime I have to use anything Nvidia I hate my life. AMD on my desktop
(RX470) is laughably better these days. Intel is ever better. That said
the M1200 works optimus/bumblebee.
* When I use the Dell Thunderbolt dock the desktop responsiveness comes to
a crawl after working for hours with 2x external 4k monitors + the
integrated 4k monitor. Not sure if this is my desktop environment or the
GPU. Tried getting the Quardro to drive the external displays but gave up
after a fight (see above about Nvidia).

Since you're asking specifically about Intel graphics, I must mention that
a recent bug in the latest Arch kernel stung my 5510 (E3-1505 + P530 GPU),
discussion @ https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=102929 .
