Re: Libedit and Modedit Icons

I agree on all of this points, unsure about the GBR, but i think it might help in the same way that the netlist icon has "NET".

In addition the DRC ladybug icon could use the letters DRC.

The current set of icons are really "engineer-icons" as i like to call them, they try to tell the entire function-set of the program/product, instead of an icons purpose of being easier/faster to recognize than reading its name. Almost every Technical researcher and Engineer i have met falls for this, including me.

Also, not many icons actually do better than a 3 letter word/abbreviation as long as it is very common knowledge.

Just my opinions, feel free to discard them if you like :)

Ps. thank you Oliver for putting in the time here. Everytime i present a student to KiCad the icons are actually confusing them more than helping from what I see.

+1 to eeschema icon changes

+1 to reverting libedit and modedit, but with no pencils

+1 to no magnifying glass  (the drill file, net and BOM icons all have three letters on them; I’m sure GBR would fit on the gerber icon)

I still think we need to change the project icon in the navigation to something similar to the New Project icons (instead of the application icon).

Kudos to Oliver for spear-heading this.

Cheers,
Jeff.

By the way, anyone else thinks the .lib file icons in the navigation looks weird? If it's meant to look like a few stacked books, why are they tilted in weird directions?

        1. Revert libedit icon to previous version
        2. Revert modedit icon to previous version
        3. Updates pcbnew icon to look more like a PCB
        4. Update colors of eeschema icon
        5. Various (almost imperceptible) tweaks to a number of
icons to fix graphic alignment issues

I wish we had something resembling a policy for
                icons. It seems like
someone always wants to change them. We had decent
                icons for these
_before_, and then someone submitted new ones, and
                they were accepted
because... I don't know? Many of the new icons are
                really ambiguous and
kind of useless. Shouldn't have been merged.

This is why I'm pushing for *a* change and not *my*
change, I remember how the argument went last time,
            before they were silently merged.

I also note that there is a lack of consistency between
similar icons. e.g. there are many icons which
incorporate an arrow but the style/shape of the arrows
            varies.

For the record, I like these proposed ones. They
                bring back the ability
to recognize them at a glance.
