I don't think it's developer-unfriendly. OpenGL's single threaded
execution model is nowhere near today's graphics hardware. I think this
is the reason. OpenGL is mostly old CAD software, which Apple doesn't
have anyway. All the rest went for DirectX on Windows, so I guess it's
an attempt to attract game/multimedia developers.

I wouldn't worry about OpenGL, it will be available through ANGLE or
another wrapper.
