Re: Ubuntu packaging of kicad-newlib?

Thanks for opening the list :)

For users it's always good to make as much ready to go packages as possible, so please go ahead and package away. Current developments by Dick et al. will make much of the current form component libraries redundant and scripting work will probably do the same for most of the footprints and 3D models. There is a lot of flux behind the scenes.

Most usable branch of kicad-newlib has been oyvind-aabling's footprint and 3D set and some of it seems to have ended to the current packaged library as well.

My guess is that most productive thing to do at the moment would be agreeing on the symbol styles, drawing them in the old format or SVG and getting component data to easily machine readable format with "bearable and easily available user interface" meaning ods spreadsheet. Much of that discussion is buried in the developer list archives, most of it more than two years old. Happy digging ;)
