So how do you measure that, SELECT ... LIMIT 10001 and then if count()
> 10000 you put 'lots' or something to that effect?

My point is that I agree capping it at a 'reasonable' value seems
worthy, but how do you detect that the cap is exceeded without
actually doing the query?
