Are our logging and OOPS mechanisms safe in the presence of multiple
garbos running concurrently? I am pretty sure that the OOPS system
will overwrite an OOPS from one such garbo if another starts, and I
suspect we don't disable buffering on the log file, which will lead to
a similar issue there.

The OOPS system stuff in particular is a real nuisance to work around,
so perhaps we shouldn't do this for now?
