Perhaps my removal of the code around line 289 in the diff deserves some extra explanation. It was never right for a branch to have non-lefthand parents in its history. Tools like "bzr check" will warn about, and "bzr reconcile" will fix incorrect history.

Bazaar has for a very long time (before 0.92) only stored the branch tip, and retrieved the rest of the history by walking the revision graph.
