I was researching this just a couple of days ago. The new format is enabled in launchpad now: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/soyuz/+bug/293106 The only thing that I have found that doesn't yet support the new formats in the entire ecosystem around debian and ubuntu is svn-buildpackage, which is used on the debian python team and some other teams. There is a patch to svn-buildpackage waiting to be applied for about 2 weeks now that enables the new formats: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=388567#51 I have very recently started using the new format (a couple days ago) with packages stored in both svn and the new bzr ubuntu distributed development branches and have not run into any problems yet. These two pages were very helpful for me in figuring out how to use the new format and how to use quilt: http://wiki.debian.org/Projects/DebSrc3.0 http://pkg-perl.alioth.debian.org/howto/quilt.html Good luck!
