if you need to use the debian directory from upstream as-is it is fine to just create a recipe.

If you need to merge some ubuntu-specific downstream changes you need to bzr branch the upstream branch, add your delta, commit and push in a private branch, and use merge fix-build in the recipe

Yes not it looks better :-)

Just one question: I have now lp:daps as upstream and 
lp:~sascha-manns-h/daps/daps-ubuntu for my Ubuntu-specific changes.
But what means a "series"? Is that a third branch?
