[Question #100566]: libdc1394 2.1.2 throws segfault in Ubuntu 9.10

New question #100566 on libdc1394:
https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/libdc1394/+question/100566

I have an ACER laptop that has a PCI express firewire card, which is connected to a externally powered firewire hub. A IIDC compatible firewire camera is attached to the hub. The system is running Ubuntu 9.10

I installed libraw1394 and libdc1394 from source, and then when I tried to apt-get coriander : then libdc1394-22 package was downloaded and installed.

Running coriander gives segfaults in libdc1394.

dmesg |grep 1394
[ 6649.288596] coriander[3845]: segfault at 0 ip 0043eac7 sp bfa8c590 error 4 in libdc1394.so.22.1.4[432000+31000]
[ 7702.844558] coriander[14034]: segfault at 0 ip 0095d267 sp bfd8c400 error 4 in libdc1394.so.22[950000+2c000]

ls -la /dev/raw1394
crw-rw---- 1 root root 171, 0 2010-02-10 14:34 /dev/raw1394

The firewire modules seem to be fine :

lspci |grep 1394
0a:09.1 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Texas Instruments PCIxx12 OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller

Running testlibraw gives:
testlibraw
successfully got handle
current generation number: 0
0 cards found

Can you please help me figure out the problem as to why libdc1394 won't work?
