I'm attempting to use libdc1394 on Ubuntu 10.04, and discovered that the version number definitions mentioned in the API documentation on http://damien.douxchamps.net/ (i.e., LIBDC1394_VERSION*) do not seem to exist in the current version of the library. The ChangeLog specifies:

2007-12-12 David Moore <dcm@xxxxxxx>
    * SVN 509: Removed LIBDC1394_VERSION* from control.h and updated
           libtool version info in configure.in.

Why were these definitions removed? Is there now a different way to check the version number from within code that uses the library?
