IRC meeting (2018-08-19)

Hello,

we just finished our IRC meeting.
It was a rather small meeting due to summer time and people enjoying their
holidays (some announced last time to be absent today).

The next meeting will happen on the 2nd of September at 19:00 UTC.

Attached you find the full log of today's meeting.
The wiki contains a summary:
  https://wiki.libravatar.org/shutdown-coordination/?updated#index2h2
(we started late - this was caused by a confusion on my side, sorry again!)

We discussed about:
* what happened in the last two weeks
* discussing about moving the service to fedora infrastructure
* hosting of git repositories

Enjoy the details!

Cheers,
Lars
21:46 <sumpfralle> So what happened last week?
21:46 <nipos> *last two weeks ;)
21:46 <sumpfralle> indeed!
21:46 <sumpfralle> jmarier moved the hosting to the VM donated by ij
21:47 <nipos> I added a bit to the RiseUp pad about my work
21:47 <sumpfralle> please copy it here, so that it ends up in the meeting protocol, if you like
21:48 <nipos> I tried to start with the design but I haven't done much
21:48 <sumpfralle> at least you cared about it - step one :)
21:49 <nipos> First I broke my system with a update required to get ivatar working, then I had other things to do (birthday part, holiday preparing,..) and now I'm in holidays
21:49 <sumpfralle> thanks for joining us today!
21:49 <nipos> Next week I can do more.
21:49 <nipos> This meeting is important.I'm always here :D
21:50 <sumpfralle> (some other people also indicated also to be absent due to holidays)
21:50 <sumpfralle> :)
21:50 <sumpfralle> so you will start with branching Olivers repository and integrate your desing?
21:50 <sumpfralle> design
21:50 <nipos> I've already forked it and got a copy running locally on the computer
21:51 <sumpfralle> cool!
21:51 <clime> hey
21:51 <nipos> Some things (like the home page for example) do already look good but my computer is at home and I don't have screenshots here so no detailed reports :/
21:51 <sumpfralle> no problem - we can wait for the next meeting :)
21:52 <nipos> I hope it's finished then :)
21:52 <clime> I got a sponsor from Fedora sysadmin-main group to run the new libravatar in Fedora Openshift.
21:52 <clime> which means we can start moving it there.
21:52 <sumpfralle> OK - switching topic now to "hosting".
21:53 <sumpfralle> Do you know the rules of this hosting?
21:53 <sumpfralle> Who could administrate it or how does it work in general?
21:53 <sumpfralle> (is it just a VM with root access?)
21:54 <clime> it's a container in OpenShift running libravatar, it can have ssh access setup
21:54 <clime> otherwise, the container deployment is described from ansible playbooks.
21:54 <sumpfralle> I am asking, because I would like to avoid the situation, where only certain people (not directly involved with libravatar) have administrative access.
21:55 <sumpfralle> With the current setup donated by ij, we have a VM and can spread root access to the ones who want to feel responsible for running the service.
21:55 <clime> well, that might be the case to the certain extent. I will have the access likely, people from Fedora Infra, and Oliver probably too.
21:56 <clime> Anyone will be able to contribute to the code though.
21:56 <clime> I don't really see that as a problem.
21:56 <sumpfralle> So it is probably restricted to a certain group of people, but luckily currently there is overlap with libravatar people. OK.
21:56 <clime> yup
21:56 <sumpfralle> (I would have offered admin support, too - but this may not be necessary)
21:57 <clime> it will be managed by Fedora infra folks. It can't really get better than that, I think.
21:57 <clime> they have the most resources to keep it running.
21:57 <nipos> I agree with that.It's a great long-term solution
21:58 <clime> *the most out of us here
21:58 <sumpfralle> I am not used to this model, but if Oliver and you feel OK with being responsible with administration details for the forseeable future, I would not argue against it.
21:58 <clime> i think it's ok.
21:59 <sumpfralle> Good.
21:59 <sumpfralle> Do you see immediate actions to be taken?
21:59 <clime> ye, it would be good to deploy it on the staging Openshift instance first where we can test it.
22:00 <clime> And then we will see likely.
22:00 <clime> if it is production-ready or if we hit some bugs
22:01 <sumpfralle> This would mean: turning jmarier's setup notes into an ansible playbook for setting up the host. And then import the current set of data from the ij's VM. Later we would do another one-way-sync of the data and change DNS. Correct?
22:01 <clime> yup
22:02 <sumpfralle> Would you do the ansible part?
22:02 <clime> yes, I think I can do it. There already other apps deployed that I can use as inspiration
22:02 <clime> and I actually already written the playbooks for OpenStack. I think, this is going to be similar.
22:03 <sumpfralle> OK. Do we already have a place where we want to host libravatar related things (e.g. code, ansible playbook)?
22:03 <sumpfralle> ("host" -> git repositories)
22:03 <clime> well, as has been said at the previous meeting, pagure.io could be good?
22:03 <nipos> Why not stay on http://git.linux-kernel.at ?
22:04 <clime> I mean even Gitlab or anything else is great.
22:04 <sumpfralle> yes, any of these would be fine. (I prefer a platform based on free software - whichever it is)
22:04 <clime> the playbooks will be here: https://infrastructure.fedoraproject.org/cgit/ansible.git
22:04 <clime> i think, there is some plan to sync them to pagure.io though
22:05 <sumpfralle> one-way?
22:05 <clime> so that pull requests can be opened against them etc
22:05 <clime> probably two-way
22:05 <sumpfralle> sounds good
22:05 <clime> or may the ansible.git will become read-only. if everything runs smoothly on pagure.io
22:06 <nipos> I have some problems with Pagure so I probably won't be able to participate there due to technical reasons
22:06 <sumpfralle> Really?
22:06 <nipos> When Micro$oft announced that they bought Github,I wanted to move my project there...
22:06 <clime> nipos: what are the problems? I think people developing pagure will be happy to fix them
22:07 <nipos> I created an account and was immediately banned with the message "account set to spamcheck_manual" even before the first login so I could never use it
22:07 <clime> nipos: can you, please, report that issue here: https://pagure.io/pagure/issues ?
22:08 <sumpfralle> I think, pagure is used by quite a number of people and projects, so we will surely be able to make it work for everyone.
22:08 <clime> i think the guys developing pagure will react pretty soon and will be able to resolve that for you
22:08 <clime> yup
22:08 <nipos> No.As I already said,I can't use it because they locked my account :/
22:08 <sumpfralle> Opening an issue will help to resolve that for sure.
22:09 <clime> nipos: oh ok, i will report the issue then for you
22:09 <nipos> How should I create an issue without being able to login to my account?
22:09 <sumpfralle> "they" are friendly people, who do no intend to block you :)
22:09 <clime> nipos: is your username there nipos?
22:09 <nipos> Yes
22:09 <nipos> Thanks for reporting ;)
22:09 <clime> ok, np, i will take care to get it resolved for you
22:09 <clime> nipos: oh ok, i will report the issue then for you
22:09 <nipos> How should I create an issue without being able to login to my account?
22:09 <sumpfralle> "they" are friendly people, who do no intend to block you :)
22:09 <clime> nipos: is your username there nipos?
22:09 <nipos> Yes
22:09 <nipos> Thanks for reporting ;)
22:09 <clime> ok, np, i will take care to get it resolved for you
22:09 <sumpfralle> cool
22:10 <clime> nipos: could you perhaps write the text of the issue for me and send it to my email? clime@xxxxxxxxxx?
22:10 <clime> so that I don't need to figure out how exactly I should describe it.
22:10 <clime> i will then just post it.
22:10 <sumpfralle> OK. So we can conclude, that clime will work on getting the current libravatar instance running on fedora infrastructure.
22:11 <sumpfralle> (finishing the "hosting" topic)
22:11 <nipos> Yes,I'll do that
22:11 <clime> yup
22:11 <sumpfralle> great
22:11 <sumpfralle> Do you have other topics for this meeting?
22:12 <sumpfralle> (code and data migration questions will probably rest until Oliver is back from holidays)
22:12 <nipos> I don't have any ideas currently
22:12 <clime> neither me
22:13 <sumpfralle> Good - so let us meet again on the 2nd September, 19 UTC?
22:13 <nipos> The agenda on RiseUp for this meeting is pretty small
22:13 <clime> sounds good to me
22:13 <nipos> Yes
22:13 <sumpfralle> Good - I will not mix that one up again :(
22:14 <sumpfralle> I will send a meeting summary to the mailing list and add it to the wiki page.
22:14 <clime> sumpfralle: thanks!
22:15 <clime> take care, bye
22:18 <sumpfralle> have a good sunday evening!
