The screen-flicker seems to happen only when the desktop is running
Unity 2D. Tested with gnome-classic and xfce (with metacity running with
and without composite), and it's working fine.

Probably related with some specific effect that's used by Unity, and not
fully supported by the framebuffer device.

Bug description:
  After booting the ubuntu desktop image parts of the display disappear.
  When the cursor goes over those regions they reappear
