Title:
8.10a4 x64 install fails, drops to initramfs prompt
Status in Mythbuntu, Ubuntu derivative focused upon MythTV:
Expired
Bug description:
Summary:
I had installed 8.10a4 x64 on this machine a few weeks ago, with no
major problems. I picked up more storage, so I replaced the IDE HDD
with two SATA drives. Upon attempting to reinstall on the new SATA
drive, the LiveCD would not even boot. I downloaded a new one and
checked the md5sum, with the same results. Trying to install, boot to
live environment, or even check the disc integrity dropped me to the
initramfs prompt.
Details:
My previous drive setup was as follows:
60GB IDE HDD (jumpered master)
IDE DVD-RW drive (jumpered slave)
After the swap:
250GB SATA HDD (on SATA line 1)
1TB SATA HDD (on SATA line 3)
IDE DVD-RW drive (tried jumpered slave and cable-select)
No other changes to the system were made.
Because the 250GB had a few things on it, I used a Ubuntu 8.04 x64
LiveCD session to move/copy to the 1TB drive first. I plan to use the
250GB drive as the main system drive, and the 1TB for storage of
multimedia.
After finding that memtest was failing, I tried swapping the memory
and trying each memory stick separately, which did not work (memtest
still failed).
I tried to run memtest on the 8.04 x64 LiveCD, and the test passed. I
also tried a copy of the newest (as of today) memtest86 LiveCD, which
also passed.
I have just successfully installed Mythbuntu 8.04.1 x86 on the same
system with the same configuration, so the hardware is functioning
properly. (I don't use this version, however, because the MythTV does
not play well with the ATI graphics cards I have available, whereas
8.10a4 worked much better.)
Is there anything else I can try? Should I try to install 8.10a4 x86
instead of 8.10a4 x64?
