[Bug 888202] Re: Mythbuntu 11.10 does not switch away from splash on startup (Fresh install)

Hallo guys, thanks for your quick replies.

@Mario
Just to make sure, by VT you mean VirtualTerminal, the ones I can switch between with ctrl-alt-F[1-8] ? If so, that does not help, I can switch to the terminal based VT's, but when I switch back to the one that is supposed to be the UI (F7 or F8) the screen just goes black.

I have not tried exchanging the cable, since I really didn't have any
clue where to begin with the trouble shooting. The cable is new and no
more than a couple or meters long, but I can off course not rule out
that it may have been damaged.

@Marc That is not possible, (actually it isn't even connected to a
display directly, it goes through a receiver). The mediacenter often
turns on by itself to record shows. Then if I need it while it has
turned of by itself then I will have the problem.

Would it be possible for me to read out the X settings while everything
works and then force X to use those settings display and resolution
settings possibly by editing xorg.conf?

Title:
Mythbuntu 11.10 does not switch away from splash on startup (Fresh
  install)

Status in Mythbuntu, Ubuntu derivative focused upon MythTV:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
My newly installed Mythbuntu box sometimes does not start up
correctly. It does not switch from the splash screen to the desktop,
but I can ssh into the system and see that mythfrontend is running, so
I am assuming that the desktop has been started. This error happens on
maybe every 5'th boot and I have not been able to correlate it with
  something I do.

The last time it happened I copied all the files in /var/log. I have
attached X.log and syslog, let me know if you need other logs.
