Title:
Sound works on LiveCD, but not after install
Status in Mythbuntu, Ubuntu derivative focused upon MythTV:
Fix Released
Status in “mythbuntu-meta” package in Ubuntu:
Fix Released
Bug description:
Motherboard: Intel DG965WH
I had a previous 9.04 install (had been upgraded from some 8.x
release) and the sound worked. Something, that I can't pin down
changed and now no sound on the system. Some debugging info-
Mythbuntu 9.04 LiveCD works- volume must be adjusted a bit, but sound plays fine with no other adjustments
Ubuntu 9.04 LiveCD works- volume must be adjusted a bit, but sound plays fine with no other adjustments
Fedora 11 LiveCD works- (don't remember if I had to change volume settings)
Mythbuntu 9.04 installed fails
Mythbuntu 9.04 installed and upgraded fails
Mythbuntu 9.10 installed and upgraded fails
Installed PCI Soundblaster and no luck playing on that either.
Sometimes after mucking with settings I can get a slight whine out of
the speakers.
I ran alsa-info.sh from the ALSA debugging info on both the LiveCD
boot and the installed system boot. I find an area in the controls
section suspicious where it seems that the LiveCD instance has less
controls. I thought that the controls might be getting enumerated
incorrectly so I used alsactl to store the LiveCD controls. When I
tried to restore those settings on the installed system the alsactl
command failed.
I've done a lot of debugging on this and have had no luck. I ran
through a few debug/triage procedures with people on an ALSA irc
channel and got nowhere either.
I'd be glad to provide any additional information. I've attached the
alsa-info.sh output for both the LiveCD instance and the installed
one.
