I have same problem too. I used ubuntu 11.10. Now 11.04 because of this bug and many many others :(
Please, fix this bug in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

  VDPAU not working anymore after 11.10 upgrade

Status in Mythbuntu, Ubuntu derivative focused upon MythTV:
  New

Bug description:
  Our MythBuntu media server is an AMD 4050e × 2  with a Gforce 8200 NVIDIA card. We got VDPAU running with 10.04 Lucid, all upgrades worked nicely including 11.04. 
  With the 3.0 kernel series, VDPAU seems not to be supported properly, apt-get install vdpau-video did not help. 
  Attached is the logfile: watching a movie, VDPAU does not work, falls back to another renderer for about two minutes, which then gets heavily delayed and picture is frozen.
