Hi clive. Lubuntu is now in version 11.10 and can be downloaded via
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/GetLubuntu. Please download
the latest copy and test it as virtual machine like you originally
wanted then report us if you encounter the same errors.

I dual-boot the latest version Lubuntu with Ubuntu 11.10. I also have
Lubuntu configured as a virtual machine on Ubuntu and it's working fine
ever since.
