Title:
Memory usage increases with repeatedly opening preferences window and
loading/unloading plugins
Status in Do:
Expired
Bug description:
I'm using version 0.5.98 on Ubuntu 8.04 x86_64.
When I start gnome-do with no plugins enabled the memory usage is
~23mb. Summoning gnome-do increases that to 26mb and it stays there
regardless of how many times I summon it (without taking any action.)
If I open the about window that goes up to 27.5mb and stays there if I
repeat it. But when I open the preferences window the mem usage goes
to 29mb, and repeatedly opening the preferences window increases the
mem usage by 0.2-0.4 mb each time. In fact opening the preferences
window increases the usage by an amount then closing it increases the
usage once again. This way I brought the usage upto ~39mb.
If I enable any plugin (i.e. Gnome terminal) the usage goes up as
expected, but when I disable it the usage goes up again. It stays at
that level when I repeat these. The usage should go down when I
disable a plugin.
Then I alternatively start the terminal and gedit using gnome-do, the
usage stays around 39. Mono must have GC'ed at this point because the
usage went down to 37 (but only to 37) perhaps collecting disabled
plugins?
There's some kind of memory leak somewhere. Either gnome-do is not
releasing all references to certain bogus objects (old preference gui
objects) so they're not getting GD'ed or Mono itself has a big
problem, or the Mono's GC policy is way too lenient. Sure I have 4gigs
of ram and 40 megs of usage is not a big deal. I just like the project
a lot and I think these kinds of utilities should be super-slim and
efficient. The usage going from 23 to 37 over 5 minutes (and staying
there for 15 minutes) is not right. I know gnome-do stores a history
but that doesn't explain the whole story here.
Devs, please look into this. I can supply more info if needed.
