This is not duplicate of bug #722285. This bug apears even in the pached
version of openshot where the timeline limt bug is already fixed. The
problem is completly different and should be fixed as I supposed in my
comment above.

Title:
  openshot does not extend the scroll area when the video grows beyond
  the projects time size

Status in OpenShot Video Editor:
  New

Bug description:
  1. create a new project of arbitrary length
  2. import a clip to the timeline
  3. split the clip anywhere
  4. move the second part of the clip  a few minutes towards the end
  5. the second clip reaches beyond the scroll area and can not be edited anymore.
