Thank you for the answer. Thus the artifact must be something I messed
up although I cannot find any object at its position using inkscape.

About the image I can say that at least images without alpha channel
work and I have the same problem when I directly create a shape with
alpha channel in inkscape. Is this the same issue or can there be a bug
about it yet?

Bug description:
  I use openshot 1.4.3 alpha on Ubuntu 11.10. I created a new title (see
  attachments) caontaining an image with transparency. It is displayed
  fine in Inkscape but in the openshot title preview I see a bad
  artifact and I can neither save nor apply a title from this template.

  This behavior seems not to occur when I do not use transparent images.
