Thanx for reply.
The problem was not to install OpenShot, but to call the help file from within OpenShot (via menu -> Help -> Content). See attachement of my fisrt post.
I don't know why, but now it works (though there are no graphics at all inside the document, but thats another pair of shoes.)

  At least here on my system with German locale OpenShot couldn't find
  openshot-doc, although its a dependency and OpenShot can't get
  installed without installing openshot-doc, too. I installed it from
  the official repository using Synaptic.

  - /usr/share/gnome/help/openshot/de/openshot.xml is present
  - /usr/share/omf/openshot/openshot-de.omf is present
