[Bug 1059775] Re: Crash using version 1.4.3 mmap() failed: Cannot allocate memory

Here's some interesting info. When I upgraded my computer to Ubuntu
12.10, I used that as an opportunity to put in a larger hard drive
(clean install of Ubuntu 12.10). However, the RPM of the old hard drive
was 7200, and the new one was 5400.

Since that setup caused so many problems, I put my old hard drive back
in and continued to use it. I have since imaged my old (working) hard
drive to a new SSD and I used that this morning to do my weekly video
edit (using latest Melt and Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit). Absolutely no
problems, even after several cuts. I still need to give it a more
complex work load, but so far it's working better than my old stable
setup, and miles better from the setup with Ubuntu 12.10 and the larger,
but slower hard drive.

If this continues to be the case, there may be something with Melt that
is sensitive to a laggy hard drive that it can't deal with.

Title:
  Crash using version 1.4.3 mmap() failed: Cannot allocate memory

Status in OpenShot Video Editor:
  New

Bug description:
  OS:  Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit
  Installation method: updated via Openshot PPA
  Openshot:  1.4.3-1
  libmlt version:  0.7.6+git20120204-2

  Was using Openshot when it became unresponsive after I clicked the
  preview play button. Here's what the Terminal spit out:

  on_tlbPlay_clicked called with self.GtkToolButton
  mmap() failed: Cannot allocate memory

  mmap() failed: Cannot allocate memory
  ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1018:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
  [consumer sdl] SDL failed to open audio: No available audio device

  I've run into this a couple of times today. I can't reproduce it on-
  command. It seems to happen randomly, and rarely. It was working
  fine while I made several cuts, and then it decided to freeze up.
