By pure luck I stumbled across

which was the issue for "failed to load producer" and the INVALID thing.
So I have to apologize.

the program stops working from time to time though, but it shall remind
me of save early, save often :)

  segmentation fault when I add image sequence to track and press play
  or export

Status in OpenShot Video Editor:

Bug description:
  openshot stops with the following message:

  [producer_xml] failed to load producer "/home/arappold/Desktop/stop motion/raw/IMG_%d_new.jpg"
  Segmentation fault

  I add an image sequence to my project, add it to a track and hit play.
  When i try a export instead the same happens.

  update: now the segmentation fault is somehow gone but openshot still
  prints "failed to load ..." and shows a big "INVALID" in preview and
  export output.

  hope its minor, and i'm looking forward to finally get my project done and exported.
  If i can produce more detailed information just let me know.
