Sorry for the delay but we are working on Openshot Qt and like we are not
numerous to be here.............Our free time is not extensible......

>>>BTW here's the GUI program that I wrote to record the video files, from
old video tapes: https://github.com/pflanze/recordvideo

Interesting. I'll test it soon I will got the time for........but not
now.

>>>Should I use matroska instead of avi, or should I install some other,
bleeding edge, OS? Or mpeg? (I didn't manage to get both sound and video
in the same mpeg video file directly from mencoder, but perhaps newer
versions of mencoder would do? Or does the mpeg work just because
OpenShot generated it itself?)

Perhaps matroska could be better than avi but I don't know. Do you have
tried ?
OS generate none format or codec. That's the work of ffmeg or libav for you
and MLT.

I'm not sure you have all packages of mlt in the 0.8.8 version. Could you
check ? Take a look at this FAQ:
https://answers.launchpad.net/openshot/+faq/1861

BTW Nice debug file.

Thanks.

Title:
OpenShot crashes when editing then moving or playing clips

Status in OpenShot Video Editor:
  New

Bug description:
I'm using OpenShot 1.4.3. This occurs both in Ubuntu 12.10 and Ubuntu
  13.04.

Often, if I edit a clip, either by cutting it or moving it, and then I
try to move the cursor or I click play, OpenShot will crash. This
  happens almost every single time.

And every time it crashes, the error message on the console is:

  *** Error in `/usr/bin/python': corrupted double-linked list:
  0x00007f1c152181f0 ***
