sorry to take a month to get back on this, but sometimes that's life...it
turned out that one of the jpeg files was corrupted, and when i removed it,
the video rendered, except that greens in the video became red, and
vice-versa.  I started another thread about that.

  crashes while exporting video

Status in OpenShot Video Editor:

Bug description:
  I have attempted four or five times to export a video to upload onto
  Youtube, and the program always crashes at the 3:19 point.  It's about
  an eight minute video.  It is not unusual to have Open Shot crash, but
  this crash makes it impossible to export a video, which is very
  annoying!

  Not sure if I'm 64 or 32 bit.
  I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
  installed via Synaptic, as far as I can recall
  Openshot version 1.4.0
  don't know the answers to the remaining questions

  I attempted to use the fix in the "crashing or fails to launch" link,
  couldn't get it to work
