Re: furthering our screecasting ideas

I like a lot of the ideas running through here, really great ones. I do have one concern though about Virtual Box. I'm running Mint on an older 2.8 GHz P4 with barely a GB of RAM. Plenty powerful to run Mint but I'm afraid it might not be nearly powerful enough to run two Mints which is what I'd be attempting to do. Even if I could run two Mints I'm not sure if I could perform the actions smoothly. I'd be more apt to create a second install if need be this way its as default as possible and go from there. That'd mean someone else would have to to the installing parts of this segment, but I have no problem with that. It would give me a chance to get used to it.

Also, do we want to have a voice accompanying the guide to further illustrate the steps?

i have heard some great ideas here, particularly from dave and lighthazard. we should use a standard format, i suggest something natively (or easily) supported by all ( or nearly all distros and windows and mac) like .avi or .mpeg. and the use of virtual box with just a straight mint 6 ( or current mint) distro on. no customization at all. this would make it easier for everyone to go to the same places (i rely heavily on mouse gestures and hotkeys). customization can be a part of this project, but we should stay as default as we can. as for the program we should use, i believe that the version of virtual box that you download from their site has a screen recorder, (some one correct me if i'm wrong please- i normally use vmware). but if they do, we should all get one product for the virtualization, and one product only. this will be easier if we standardize.
