I'm not sure all of you have Failbook, but if you look here:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/lubuntu.official/permalink/791789804211175/
You'll see that someone purchased a Lubuntu 14.10 disc from OSDisc.com
that appears to be an old pre-release. It doesn't work and is
basically non-functional.
The OP says he's bought CDs from these guys for years and has never
had a problem, so I guess we'll see what happens. I do believe we
should keep an eye on this and maybe work with them to do an audit. If
they're providing non-release images, that's a problem that we need to
stop in its tracks.
The other thing is that this has me thinking about us providing our
own CDs. It's possible to get bit-by-bit labeled CDs with jewel cases,
tray art, and 2-panel insert from kunaki.com for a mere $1. They can
set up a retail website where people can make purchases. We could set
up the PayPal account to be that of linux.com or Open Source Alliance
or something similar. There's also a general fund I know Ubuntu has
where the money goes to help LoCos. It's only $1 a CD anyways. Oh, and
they do DVDs, too. This way we actually have control over the process.
The only problem with Kunaki is that the software for uploading art
and data is Windows-only. I have an old XP install in a virtual
machine that I use for the purpose. If time is not an issue, you can
mail the information to them.
Thoughts?
