I’m obviously missing something, as I can’t see anything on that link about this.
Besides it’s easy enough to do.  Just create the appropriate .desktop files in the Desktop folder.  Personally, I see no worth or merit in desktop icons anyway as I can’t see the desktop for applications when I’m using the computer.
