Sleep key & Close lid do not work - 12.04 Lubuntu ppc

The Sleep Key (usually, on other setups the power-on key when only
shortly tipped on) and close lid do not work. I copied the
pbbuttonsd.con file from another setup (where it works) but it did not
change anything. Out of `man pbbuttonsd`i got this:

---------
SLEEP puts the machine to sleep (also known as suspend to RAM)
if possible. If sleep was not supported on this machine
the screen will be blanked. Sleep is a kernel function
and will only be triggered by pbbuttonsd.
HIBERNATE saves the memory and the process information to disk
(also known as suspend to Disk or Hibernate) if possi‐
ble. If hibernate was not supported on this machine
nothing will happen. Hibernate is a kernel function and
will only be triggered by pbbuttonsd through a PMCS
                      script usually placed in /etc/power/.

If there is a kernel problem with the 3.2.0-17 ppc kernel?
