Re: xcompmgr in 12.04

Thanks Rafaell for the info on xcompmgr. I had kind of figured out that development was sort of dead on it. Seems to have been superseded by something called compton? Xcompmgr seems also a bit crash-tastic. I'll have to check out cairo. I did try cairo-dock ages ago, but it didn't like my hardware at the time. Maybe xcompmgr should be removed from the Lubuntu documentation for the moment (or a note about 12.04 added)? @phil, I cannot reproduce bug 987764 with Ubuntu Alternate PowerPC.

I don not recommend using xcompmgr or xcompmgr-dana. Cairo compmgr works better with Lubuntu. Trust me, I provd ALL of them (compositing systems, I mean, not distros). And its development is stopped. Almost dead.

I know, this thread is not about this.

    Hi,

I'm somewhat more worried about http://launchpad.net/bugs/987764 Lubuntu are the only people who tested the latest re-spins & the -release team need that information yesterday!

        Hi Lubuntu lists!

Has anybody got shadows working with xcompmgr in 12.04?

I've followed the advice in the Lubuntu FAQ/guides, but it is a no go. Googling has not brought any answers except it seemingly broke in Lubuntu around early April. I've tried reverting to an earlier version of xcompmgr and that didn't fix it.

Changing subject, the last of the big PowerPC bugs (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/949288 ) is going to get fixed. It's too late for the ISOs, but from what I gather the kernel config will be changed on the first kernel update. This will fix suspend with radeon cards and also help Rage 128 users. Thanks to all those involved in that bug.

Also PowerPC related, in case anybody has missed it, on the ubuntuforums there has been a discussion about a problem with nouveau cards. Parts of the firefox pages going missing. I think wxl had this problem. A potential fix is on this thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1937940 . If anybody affected by the problem could test it then I'll add it too the PowerPC FAQ.

        Cheers
