I was asked about the alternate iso's, so I thought I would share. The
ubiquity installer team has a goal (blueprint:
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/foundations-q-ubiquity-lvm-luks)
this cycle to eliminate the need for the alternate installer (and hence,
the alternate installer cd's). This of course would be for ubuntu only, the
flavors teams are free to continue to ship and support (or not) alternate
images. The team has noted it will be a lot of work to accomplish this, so
alternate installer images will continue to be generated in the meantime as
a fallback in case they are unable to meet all usecases, etc.

In addition, you will notice that no ubuntu desktop DVD is being built for
alpha 1. This is because a goal has been put forward to migrate to one
image per architecture. Note this is an on-going goal, and still being
actively discussed.

In short,
alternate images will be produced and need to be tested in the interim.
No desktop DVD for this milestone

The Alpha One milestone is quickly approaching us. Starting next Monday the
first images will be generated for the milestone and we'll begin milestone
testing. As a pre-cursor to that testing, we are looking to test now and
report issues in advance. The goal is to run a daily of your iso sometime
in the week before the milestone image is built to find any issues before
the intense milestone testing, so that respins and major issues can be
avoided. Take the time this week to grab a daily of your adopted iso and
report results! Many thanks to those folks who have already done so (thank
you gwjvan and cpatrick08, and others I may have missed).

If you haven't subscribed to be informed about new builds for your iso,
please do so. It will help keep you informed next week as we do the iso
testing for the milestone. Here's a few links that may come in useful for
you:

I can highly recommend zsync and, if your testing must occur in a VM,
testdrive. Zsync makes it easy to keep your isos up-to-date without having
to re-download them.

As always, happy testing everyone! Remember Alpha One is an upgrade time
for many of the folks who like to live on the bleeding edge. Let's make
sure our images let them join us in Quantal fun :-)
