After a tip from Sebastien Bacher I rebooted, went into the text screen
with ctrl+alt+F1 and ran
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo service lightdm start
and now I have a working Lubuntu desktop environment.
So there is a fix that solves the problem with lightdm :-)
Best regards
