The desktop ppc image boots again.  However, with the installer, there
might be still 996568

*but* two new ones stand in the way of checking that one's status:

PPC - Ubiquity does not find the network, stops at first stage
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1377875

PPC - GUI freezes except for mouse pointer
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mobile/+bug/1377878

That latter bug prevents using ubuntu-bug to collect proper information.
