This is actually part testing. The developers are trying to get Ubuntu working on as many hardware units they can acquire, giving Ubuntu more scalability, hardware wise.
If you are not sure your hardware is compatible, install Ubuntu and test. Report your findings back to the Ubuntu developers. There is a program designed to perform this task, "hardware testing" I think. Use that to perform hardware testing.

Hi All,
A lot of testing is going on. I've just (successfully) installed vivid alpha 2 on a Dell Optiplex with 512MiB of RAM.
Would it be a good idea to have a page or two summarising the experiences of the installers/testers? Something that a novice user could use to either check their hardware is compatible or to help them select hardware that is confirmed as compatible?
