Re: Lubuntu One Stop Thread - Preparations

Hi,

I'll repeat the reasoning behind this. If you are new to lubntu, you may
want your hand holding a little. There are two clear methods of having this
happen, IRC and forum. Behind the reasoning is that in future both 'front
ends' point to the wiki pages. For IRC this is done with 'factoids', on the
wiki it is done by a 'header' page. If people on either the forum or on IRC
do not fully understand the wiki, it is updated. When work arounds are no
longer needed as a bug has had a fix, the wiki is updated. During release
cycles, the wiki is updated. This has the simple advantage that our scant
resources can concentrate on one single area to have the most up to date
information. That being the wiki.

This is why I posted up http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1193567 as
an excellent example. All the links post to a 'wiki' area which is updated,
the discussion about the contents takes place on the forum under the
auspicies of the maintainer. In our case, we are not using a private shared
hoster, but our wiki pages. The maintainer of the forum page will be Ali,
but all within lubuntu whether from facebook, IRC, forum, mailing list etc.
etc. will all have one central source of up to date information and can
keep it updated.

Any search on goolge etc., will lead them back to the wiki. So if the link
would, as at present, take them to a piece of 'static' information that is
two years old (and often older), it will not; instead the forum index / old
wiki page will have been edited so that they always get the up to date
stuff in the same way that IRC factoids can be updated.

Regards,

Phill.
