apt-cache policy ? -- if someone could tell me which package is of relevance I'll repost, thanks.

Wireless works in 2.6.24-12  through -15, but is broken in 2.6.24-16. 
Network Monitor applet (for ath0):

"Please contact your system administrator to resolve the following problem: SIOCGIFFLAGS error: No such device"

Status: error

When I try to configure it in Network Settings:

"The interface does not exist
Check that it is correctly typed and that it is correctly supported by your system."

ifconfig doesn't list ath0 anymore, but lspci does still recognize it (02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev 01)

Added to /etc/network/interfaces file, as was missing:
auto ath0
iface ath0 inet dhcp 
but didn't help.

modprobe ath_pci gives
