I have a Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo Mobile V6535 and had this problem
I tried all kinds of things with backports etc however when I finally looked at this:
http://madwifi-project.org/ticket/1192
and then download the latest HAL version.
Followed
http://madwifi-project.org/wiki/UserDocs/FirstTimeHowTo
to install it
and, voilà, after a restart it worked again :-)

Bug description:
I am running both hardy and intrepid on my computer. Running in Hardy, the card works fine. In Intrepid about 4 or 5 days ago I ran an update and the wireless card doesn't work. I suspect it is a change in the kernel.

Network manager icon does not appear in the bar in ubuntu and when I try and connect using the command line it doesn't connect.
