[Bug 262550] Re: WARNING: Intrepid might burn down MacBook Pro

This is very common if you compile anything against the kernel yourself.
The updated AppleSMC package in the mactel-support repo is provided so
that you have a fixed before it may be available in the standard Ubuntu
repos. The changes made were submitted upstream and then included in the
Linux kernel. However, the changes were included in a version of the
kernel that is newer than that available in the Intrepid. For this
reason, you still need to update via the mactel-support repos... and
since your kernel was updated, and the previous version of the applesmc
module was compiled against the old kernel, you may need to compile it
again against the newer kernel.

Bottom Line, the fix IS released, and it has been nominated for an
Intrepid backport. Now you just have to wait.

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.27-1-generic

Testing Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 4 64-Bit on a MacBook Pro rev. 3. Installing today's updates, the MacBook gets extremely hot and automatically goes into standby. This looks like an emergency standby caused by the EFI or something because it got overheated. Unless you put a metal plate or something under it, the fan runs on highest level at full power, which is not the usual.

Is there a tool you can see the CPU temperature with?
