Re: karmic, intel and Kernel Mode Setting

I believe all this was in Hal except some of the nvidia machines because the driver wasn't working correctly.

Has anybody else tried Karmic with one of the -intel chips?

The "old" in-driver method for controlling the LVDS backlight does not
work with KMS. I reported a bug a while back[1], but it seems to be
going nowhere, and the triager unsubscribed.

So now I'm looking at the issue to see if I can resolve it, but I
thought I would ask first if anybody *does* have a working backlight
with -intel on karmic. I'm using a macbook3,1 which has a 965 "X3100"
card, but having it working on any apple machine with intel graphics
would be useful (as I'd be curious what method it is using there).

Also, I found a bug report where rydberg requested adding mbp_backlight
to the -intel driver[2]. As far as I can tell, mbp_backlight only
provides functionality for nvidia graphics, right? Or does it provide
general apple backlight support as well?

I haven't yet looked at applesmc to see if (screen) backlight support
exists there.
