[Bug 539296] Re: Accessibility: Visual captcha
We have some new anti-spam features coming in 1.3, and as part of that
the visual CAPTCHAs have been removed from Mahara.
It would be nice to get feedback when Mahara 1.3 is released. In
particular, I'm not sure about the accessibility of one anti-spam
measure. The "name" attribute for form fields is not longer descriptive
("name", "email", etc) but rather a random hash of various inputs.
"Label" elements are still in tact, and descriptive. A problem would
presumably only arise if screen readers used the name attributes rather
than matching labels with elements.

There's a visual captcha as part of the registration form. For those of us
who can't see the screen, this precludes access altogether, as no
alternative is offered. My only choice at this point would be to ask
someone else to create an account, whereas someone without accessibility
needs would be able to do so easily and independently.
I am using Firefox 3.5.6, the Orca assistive technology
(http://live.gnome.org/Orca), a refreshable braille display and speech
output.
