I have fixed it the way François suggested, the patch is attached.

Status in Mahara ePortfolio: Confirmed

Bug description:
1- add an email address to your profile
2- do NOT validate it
3- remove it from your profile
4- try adding it again in your profile

You get this error message:

  "The e-mail address you are trying to validate is already taken"

until you remove it manually from the artefact_internal_profile_email table in the database.
