Thanks for the screenshot. I see the problem now.

I think it might come from your custom theme, because the built-in ones
work fine (see attached screenshot).

Have a look a this forum thread to see what changes you have to make to
custom themes when upgrading to 1.4:

  Shared pages link shows HTML code

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  I just upgrade Mahara from 1.3.6 into Mahara 1.4. Then I found an error when I visit my Shared Pages under Group links. It shows this : 
  <div id="sharedviews_pagination" class="pagination"><div class="results">1 result</div></div>

  I also attached the screenshot.
